Robin distributed information on the upcoming elections, and Rafael reminded neighbors of coming candidate forums. Robin recognized the following attendees:
Robin provided an update on the Barton Springs Road project: work stopped three weeks ago has now resumed and is still projected to finish by the end of this year. |
Request For Volunteers | Robin asked for volunteers:
Interested neighbors should contact Robin. |
APD Representative | Robin introduced Mike Summers, our new Austin Police Department representative, who spoke of his commitment to attend our meetings and acknowledged interest in crime prevention in the neighborhood and the greenbelt. Scott Johnson asked how to reserve a speed trailer, and Mike directed him to make arrangements through our APD liaison, Art Stone. Mike also invited neighbors to an APD-sponsored Senior Information Fair scheduled at the South Austin Activity Center on May 17th. |
Brodie Tract Update |
Donna Tiemann from the Barton View Neighborhood Association updated us on the proposed sale by the city of the Brodie Tract: BHNA (as authorized by the Executive Committee) and other groups petitioned the City Council not to sell, and the proposed sale was scuttled. Further discussions conducted by the city on this topic are expected. Donna circulated a petition to designate the Tract as a preserve. |
SOS Presentation | Bill Bunch and Colin Clark of SOS briefed members on developer activities currently threatening Barton Creek and Barton Springs, including proposed development of Mopac south to 45-S, and on SOS activities to keep transportation development east of I-35. Bunch urged neighbors to thank the City Council for taking development of 45-S out of the city transportation plan, and to urge Council members to oppose state funding. He also noted that SOS has also been pressuring the City Council to preserve the Brodie Tract. |
Other Business | Glee Ingram again requested that our next general meeting agenda include discussion of ways to eliminate traffic humps that affect traffic in and out of our neighborhood and to prevent installation of any new ones. |
