Treasurer's Report

Peter Hess called the meeting to order. The minutes of the 29 June 1999 meeting were approved as summarized.
John Bell, reporting for Pat Whiteside, announced that the Association has 42l members and that he is now collecting dues for memberships for 2000. Kay Killen challenged all members to bring a new member to the next meeting. John Bell reported that the Treasury has $4340.28 of which $67 is earmarked for oak wilt costs. |
Election of
Officers for 2000 |
Peter Hess, who is retiring as President, said that he has enjoyed the challenge of the position he has held for the last two years.
Ferne Mizell gave the Nominating Committees slate of officers for 2000:
There were no nominations from the floor. The slate was unanimously elected. Speaking on behalf of Roberta Preston, Kay Killen thanked the Parade committee and all those who helped with the Independence Day Parade. Barton Skyway
Road Work |
The Barton Skyway project is still not finished. Robert Reyna, project manager, said that he can come up with 50% of the cost from grants but that the City will have to come up with the rest of the money. The repaving of Barton Skyway itself is now a real possibility.

Town Lake
Park Project |
Larry Akers reported on the Town Lake Park project. In July the City Council approved the master plan. There has been no final resolution on the closure of Riverside in the vicinity. The City has commissioned a downtown transportation study, has hired architects for the project, and is entertaining landscape proposals. The Park will be phased in with opening of the Civic Center in early-to-mid-2002 and the arts center in mid-2004. The City is still looking for major donations.

Association PA System |
Betty Brown moved that the Association purchase a PA system. After some discussion it was decided that Carl Newsome will bring one for consideration to the next membership meeting. |

Barton Creek Greenbelt Cleanup
|
The Association will have a Barton Creek Greenbelt clean-up, probably in February. Kay Killen suggested that the Association enlist the help of residents of the apartments and condominiums as well as those who live across the creek. Area Scout troops will be asked also. Mark Gentle will be chair of the event, and a sign-up sheet was circulated.

Gotham Lofts
|

Sunken Gardens Renovation |
Robert Hansen, Endangered Species Biologist with the Watershed Project Department of the City, addressed plans for the renovation of Sunken Gardens. The project, part of an agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department, also involves storm water drainage in the area. Citizen input and participation are welcome. A sign-up sheet was circulated. |
